Although only located sixteen miles northwest of New York City, Rockland County is characterized by a pastoral, mountainous ambiance prevalent in nearby Upstate New York. Designated a Preserve America Community, Rockland County is known for its rocky terrain, spacious parks, Palisades Parks Conservancy, and overall outdoor beauty. Harriman State Park and Bear Mountain State Park are two noteworthy parks included in Rockland’s 32,000 acres of park land. The area has Palisades Parks Conservancy and several mountains great for hiking and catching views of the Hudson River and New York City. Nordkop Mountain in Suffern offers one of the county’s most picturesque vistas of New York City.
Rockland County residents do not have to travel far for a shopping experience of a lifetime. Located in West Nyack, the Palisades Center (Palisades Mall) is a shopper’s paradise. One of the country’s largest malls. Palisades Center is equipped with four floors of shopping, an IMAX theater, dozens of restaurants, and an ice skating rink. For travel outside Rockland County, three Rockland County train stations are on New Jersey Transit’s Pascack Valley Line. The bus system, the Transport of Rockland, provides service along major routes in Rockland County and connects to Rockland Coaches and Short Line routes that travel to Northern New Jersey and New York City. New Jersey Transit and Metro-North Railroad also offer stops in Rockland County.
