Located thirty miles northwest of New York City, Morris County boasts an eclectic blend of suburban, rural, and urban landscapes. Train stations and bus stops provide access to Manhattan from Morris County. Route 80, Route 46 and Route 10 all head east towards the city and New Jersey’s urban areas. While using any method of transportation, expect to spend over an hour on the road when traveling during rush hour. Although many travel east for work, Morris County is known for its commerce. Dozens of Fortune 500 companies are headquartered in Morris County, including AT&T, Pfizer, Verizon, and Colgate Palmolive. Although business thrives in Morris County, outdoor beauty rivals it with 18,000 acres of parkland located in the county, see Morris Park. Golfers are in luck with four county golf courses and sixteen public and private courses to choose from in the county. Partially located in Morris County, Lake Hopatcong, the largest lake in the state, is a popular weekend destination for boating, swimming, and fishing. Within an hour west of Morris County, another popular haven for outdoor activity is the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area and Delaware National Parks. With its 700,000 acres of land along the Delaware River’s New Jersey and Pennsylvania shores, the area is ideal for picnicking, fishing, rafting, hiking, and camping.

With its strong historical and cultural undertones, Morristown is at the center of Morris County’s character. Once home to George Washington’s Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War, Morristown holds an important place in the nation’s history. To experience some of this history, the Morristown National Historical Park welcomes the public to explore Washington’s Headquarters Museum, Jockey Hollow Encampment area, and the Wick House. Also located in Morristown is Fosterfields Living Historical Farm, which recreates nineteenth century farm life. For a contemporary experience, the Community Theatre in Morristown offers comedy shows, plays, and musical performances. There are also several restaurants, bars, and other entertainment venues to choose from in Morristown. Next door to Morristown, the town of Madison is an appealing, quaint college town distinguished by quaint coffee shops and upscale restaurants. Madison is also home to the renowned Shakespeare Theatre of NJ.
